Multiple VAT registration across Europe

Companies importing goods into foreign countries or supplying goods from foreign countries or to foreign countries may have an obligation to register for VAT in Europe or in multiple locations.

VAT registration

Typically, you might need a VAT registration abroad, for example, in the following cases:

  • You buy and sell goods in that country;
  • You import goods into foreign countries from outside EU or bring in goods from another EU country;
  • You supply goods from a warehouse in foreign countries;
  • You move your own goods across the borders within EU (some exceptions apply);
  • You deliver goods on a turn-key basis (supply goods with installation or assembly) in certain circumstances;
  • You receive entrance fee for conference, exhibition or training in foreign country;
  • You supply goods to final consumers (B2C supplies) in foreign country over distance selling threshold (typically EUR 35 000 but higher in the UK, Germany and Netherlands).
