National Champions announced

The excitement is beginning to build for the European Business Awards 2015/16, following the announcement of the National Champions on 1 September.

The 678 companies, from 33 countries across Europe, were selected by a panel of independent judges, including business leaders and senior academics, after the programme engaged with over 32 000 entrants in the first round.

RSM has proudly sponsored the European Business Awards since its inception. The European Business Awards not only recognise success but also represent the drive to promote business ties across Europe and develop a competitive and vibrant business community of which we can all be proud.

As ever, I was interested to see which countries and sectors are best represented in this first round of judging. The UK was particularly well represented with 54 companies being named as National Champions, closely followed by Turkey at 46. IT Technology, manufacturing and FMCG (including food and drink) are the top three sectors represented at this stage. However, the diversity of entrants, varying in size and sector, indicates that in spite of the on-going challenges in certain EU members, Europe remains a strong, competitive and exciting place to do business.

Europe has a diverse and creative economy which can be seen in the growing number of entrepreneurs and start-ups in the region. The European Business Awards is an excellent opportunity to showcase Europe’s finest examples of these and to provide inspiration to other aspiring business leaders.

The next round of the competition involves video presentations by the National Champions to tell their unique stories of success. I wish them all the best of luck for the next round and my congratulations to all National Champions.
